  • Every Friday, I plan to share a small learning from my conversations with candidates. These are real questions I hear every day — practical, common, and relevant to so many! This is a limited series, so each insight is intentional and focused. Here is the first one! I often hear this: “I’m not getting enough calls, and I don’t understand why.” One thing many professionals miss is this — your resume usually reaches the hiring manager 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐚 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐫𝐮𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐫. 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐫𝐮𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐧 𝐧𝐨𝐧-𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 and work under significant time pressure. They scan resumes quickly, looking for keywords to assess fit with the job description. If your resume doesn’t impress the recruiter, it may never reach the hiring manager. A few simple checks that help: • Use common, 𝐰𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐬 • 𝐀𝐯𝐨𝐢𝐝 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐚𝐛𝐛𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 or company-specific jargons • 𝐈𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐝𝐞 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐤𝐞𝐲𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐬 — sector, domain, geography, level, technology — recruiters may search for any of these while shortlisting • 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 (bold/italic) the keywords Remember — your resume is written for an outsider. Use clear, simple language. Small changes can make a big difference in getting your resume picked up
