  • What does the High School of the future even look like ? Many parents have heard the following - child won’t graduate, child can’t speak, child can’t do any sports, child can’t have friends….lists of what they can’t do would be pages long. But what if the reframe is not for our children but what school and institutions could design for …

I’m writing this with a heavy heart. I just signed away my Autistic child’s diploma and I feel absolutely defeated. Jackson is my Autistic, ADHD, Dyscalculiac, suspected OCD, 9 year old multi-communicator child. And he is absolutely drowning at his Neurotypical school in their standard program. Very long story but today was the day we and his team decided to switch him to the extended curriculum (what used to be called special education curriculum.) This means that he will not be eligible for a high school diploma. Private elementary schools for people like us average $40,000 a year tuition and, even after grants, it’s just too expensive. I’m starting homeschooling with him this summer. But that can’t be a long-term solution as we are definitely a two paycheck family. It’s not that Jackson doesn’t do school - it’s that school doesn’t do Jackson. He doesn’t learn anything. How could he? He might as well be at a school meant for hedgehogs, the Neurotypical teaching, testing and evaluating processes are so unfair and inappropriate. Neurotypical schools don’t help Neurodivergent kids. Instead, these institutions teach them to mask, to perform, and to hate the very essence of what makes them unique. I know my child can’t be successful unless he switches curriculum paths. But to put me in a position where I have to make the heavy decision to waive his diploma without his consent? “Jackson will need extensive supports post high school.” “What the hell does that mean?” “He will likely stay in high school until the age of 22 where he will then be taught life skills and vocational training.” “Jackson was diagnosed at 18 months, and they told us he would never speak, read or write, let alone live on his own or have a ‘meaningful’ life. You do not know what he will be capable of in 10 years. They didn’t either.” * I will post more about this later, but I need to take care of me. Thank you to everyone who always asks how Jackson is doing - your concern is really touching and I love y’all for it.

When we started HiBoop, getting a university to trust us with their clinical program felt like a distant dream. Today, it's real. 🎓 HiBoop has officially partnered with the University of Victoria Psychology Clinic to digitize its mental health assessments. UVic's clinic trains master's- and doctoral-level students in clinical psychology under the supervision of licensed psychologists. These are serious clinicians doing serious work — and they chose us. Dr. Jill Robinson, we couldn't have done it without you. For a startup, this means everything: ✅ Clinical validation from a research-intensive institution ✅ Oversight from licensed psychologists in a real training environment ✅ Proof that modern tools belong in clinical practice We didn't just build software. We built something that earned a seat in one of the most rigorous settings in mental health care. This is the kind of milestone that changes everything — for our team, and for the people this platform ultimately serves. 📎 Full announcement: https://lnkd.in/g6cA7PNi #MentalHealth #HealthTech #StartupMilestone #HiBoop #UVic #ClinicalPsychology

Our new Girls Who Game IRL cohorts are officially underway, and there’s already so much to share. 🩵 It has been so meaningful to see both our middle school and high school groups settling back in and continuing to build on the connections and trust they have already created. So much of the work we are doing right now is centered around self-advocacy, regulation, and supporting the girls as they move through new experiences, even when those moments feel hard. We also had the chance to spend time together at Zone Bowling in Coquitlam, which brought a new layer of shared experience, connection, and confidence-building into the group. What stands out most is how they show up for each other. Through games, shared moments, and consistent support, we are creating a space where they can feel safe to communicate, express themselves, and build confidence in who they are. That sense of safety and connection is always the goal. If you have been curious about Girls Who Game IRL or wondering if it might be a good fit for your teen, we would love to connect. ✨ https://lnkd.in/g-Vt7qdB #YourBehaviourGal #GirlsWhoGame #SocialSkills #ParentSupport #BehaviourAnalyst

Neurodivergent students bring valuable strengths to the workforce, but too often, career systems are not designed with them in mind. Jennifer Fane, Liana Giacoboni and Tanzeela Faisal of Signal49 Research share practical strategies for career development professionals working in Canadian post-secondary education. The article explores how to make career learning more visible, structured and accessible; adapt guidance for neurodivergent thinking styles and strengths; and design more inclusive work-integrated learning experiences. With BC moving away from Autism Funding toward the new CYSN framework, I keep hearing the same two concerns from families and professionals. Money. And continuity. Families are trying to figure out what they'll actually receive under the new system, and whether they'll lose support they depend on. Professionals are asking what non-clinical, neuroaffirmative support will look like once the transition settles. A lot of that is still being worked out. In the meantime, families are being asked to make real decisions now, without a clear structure to guide them. 📖Edify has been connecting families with neuroaffirmative professionals for a while now. With this transition underway it feels more relevant than ever. A place to find the right people and stay aligned while things are still evolving. It doesn't replace clinical guidance or ministry direction. It's just there for the part that falls in between. If you're supporting families through this shift, link is in the comments.
