Today, D-Wave announced that it has signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) for $100 million of proposed funding under the U.S. CHIPS and Science Act, which is administered by the U.S. Department of Commerce. In connection with executing final award documents, the U.S. government would obtain an equity stake in the company. This funding would accelerate development and scaling of D-Wave’s annealing and gate-model quantum systems, including at its forthcoming R&D facility in Boca Raton, Florida as well as its R&D centers in New Haven, Connecticut and Burnaby, BC, Canada. The LOI marks a significant endorsement by the U.S. government of D-Wave’s annealing and gate-model quantum computing technologies and their potential impact on the U.S. economy. We are honored to be chosen to collaborate with the U.S. Department of Commerce to advance domestic manufacturing of quantum technologies. Episode 4 of the Quantum Matters podcast is available now on YouTube and all major podcast platforms. Watch or listen here: https://lnkd.in/gJm_icDR Large factory warehouses manage thousands, sometimes millions, of items, each needing to be stored in the right place and moved at the right time. When item placement is not optimized, it can result in extra handling, delays, and repeated reinsertions. In this episode, host Murray Thom speaks with Gabriel Fernandes of the Wernher von Braun Advanced Research Center about using quantum-powered optimization to rethink warehouse operations. Gabriel shares his recent work applying quantum computing to item assignment in gravity flow racks. Using real operational data, his simulation showed about a 90% reduction in product reinsertions. Listen now to hear more about the work and Gabriel’s journey into quantum computing. #QuantumComputing #manufacturing #logistics #technology Von Braun Labs
