  • Day 2 of the CIOCAN Peer Forum closed out an incredible experience of learning, connection, and honest conversations about the future of technology leadership in Canada. From discussions around responsible AI adoption and cyber resilience to leadership burnout, cloud financial strategy, and the realities of today’s evolving threat landscape, the sessions throughout the day challenged attendees to think differently, lead intentionally, and stay future-focused. One of the most impactful parts of the Peer Forum continues to be the willingness of leaders to share openly. not just successes, but lessons learned, challenges faced, and practical insights from their own experiences. Whether during breakout sessions, networking conversations, or keynote discussions, there was a genuine sense of community and collaboration throughout the day. The forum concluded with an inspiring look ahead to 2027 and beyond, leaving attendees energized about the possibilities ahead and the role CIOs will continue to play in shaping innovation, resilience, and transformation across Canada. A sincere thank you to our speakers, sponsors, partners, volunteers, and attendees for helping make this year’s Peer Forum such a meaningful experience. #CIOCAN #PeerForum #EmpowermentEra *Photos by Jennifer Friesen, Digital Journal

  • AI continues to reshape how organizations think about leadership, operations, and innovation, and conversations like these at CIOCAN Peer Forum are helping Canadian technology leaders navigate that shift together. A key theme that emerged from this discussion was that successful AI adoption is not only about technology, but also about trust, organizational readiness, and the evolving role of the CIO. As expectations around AI accelerate, IT leaders are increasingly being called upon to move beyond operational firefighting and help drive strategic business transformation. Thank you to Kristin Wilkes, Mélissa Romulus Lisanti, MBA, CCMP, AccBD, & Geoff Nielson of Info-Tech Research Group for sharing valuable insights with our Vancouver Peer Forum community and sparking important conversations around the future of AI leadership in Canada. AI strategy has a funny way of finding the weak spots in an organization. At the CIO Association of Canada’s Peer Forum in Vancouver, Kristin Wilkes and Mélissa Romulus Lisanti, MBA, CCMP, AccBD of Long View Systems, and Geoff Nielson of Info-Tech Research Group, put a sharper frame around what many technology leaders are already feeling. Everyone wants IT to help lead the AI conversation, but Nielson said three quarters of CEOs believe their IT function is stuck in firefighting mode. That matters because AI adoption depends on trust, relationships, delivery confidence, and whether the CIO has a clear mandate from the business. As Wilkes put it, “That shadow economy is actually telling you that there is demand and potential for productivity inside your organization.” The question for CIOs is whether their calendars, relationships, and mandate match the role AI now requires. 🔴 Read the full story by Jennifer Friesen here: https://lnkd.in/eNBK5YtG ⚫️ Subscribe to our newsletter for a weekly look at the technology stories reshaping how Canadian businesses operate and compete: https://lnkd.in/eAxuzFwE
