About us

The Canadian Gas Association (CGA) is the voice of Canada’s gas energy delivery industry, including natural gas, renewable natural gas (RNG) and hydrogen. CGA membership includes energy distribution and transmission companies, equipment manufacturers, and suppliers of goods and services to the industry. CGA’s utility members are Canadian-owned and active in eight provinces and one territory. Canadian natural gas delivery industry meets nearly 40 per cent of Canada’s energy needs through a network of almost 600,000 kilometres of underground infrastructure. The versatility and resiliency of this infrastructure allows it to deliver an ever-changing gas supply mix to over 7.6 million customer locations representing approximately two-thirds of Canadians. CGA members ensure Canadians get the affordable, reliable, lower emitting fuel source they want and need. CGA is also working to constantly improve that gas energy offering by driving forward innovation through the Natural Gas Innovation Fund (NGIF).

  • CGA's President and CEO, Susanna Zagar ICD.D, GCB.D, joined industry leaders at the Industrial Gas Users Association (IGUA) conference examining how natural gas supports Canadian industry, competitiveness and reliability across sectors, including aluminum, steel and fuels. A key theme throughout the discussion was that natural gas is more than an energy source — it is also a critical feedstock for manufacturing and industrial growth. Canada’s abundant and competitively priced natural gas presents a strategic advantage, but realizing that opportunity will require the right policy, regulatory and investment signals. The conversation reinforced that natural gas remains foundational to Canada’s economy and energy future — supporting affordable, reliable energy while strengthening competitiveness at home and globally. The path forward will require thoughtful collaboration across industry and governments to ensure Canada’s energy systems can support long-term growth.

  • CGA’s paul cheliak joined industry leaders at the Industrial Gas Users Association (IGUA) conference today for a panel discussion on the infrastructure, regulatory and market challenges shaping natural gas transportation across Canada — and the opportunities to ensure reliable, affordable energy delivery for industrial sectors. A key takeaway: Canada is entering a new era of energy growth. As demand rises across industry, manufacturing, AI and data centres, infrastructure, policy and regulatory systems must keep pace. The discussion reinforced that affordability, reliability, environmental progress and customer choice must advance together. Business and governments are increasingly aligned on the need for a pragmatic approach that supports growth, competitiveness and energy security.

  • The Kaiser Energy Bison Award is an annual award in honour of the late Gordon Kaiser. This year, Timothy M. Egan was the recipient of the award in recognition of his many contributions to energy law and regulation, particularly for his role as President and CEO of the Canadian Gas Association (CGA). During his nearly 16 years at the CGA, Tim worked tirelessly to advance the interests of CGA members in the public policy arena. He also founded several initiatives under the CGA, including NGIF Capital Corporation, CGA Enterprises, ENERGY magazine and the Energy Regulation Quarterly (ERQ). To date, ERQ remains Canada’s only journal dedicated to legal, economic and public policy issues affecting the regulated energy sector. Established with independent editors, the journal has become an important forum for practical and rigorous policy discussion. For these and countless other contributions, Tim Egan has demonstrated a strong commitment to the energy sector and is a deserving recipient of the 2026 Kaiser Energy Bison Award.
