Yesterday, our team met with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) as part of early engagement on licensing CANDU® technology for deployment in the United States. The nuclear renaissance, accelerated by surging AI‑driven electricity demand, is creating renewed momentum for large‑scale, proven nuclear solutions. As the U.S. government looks to quadruple nuclear energy capacity by 2050, meeting that ambition will require safe, affordable, and reliable baseload power from reactors that can be deployed at scale, which CANDU technology is uniquely positioned to deliver. AtkinsRéalis is pleased to be engaging with the NRC to begin the licensing process, a critical step toward making CANDU technology available to U.S. utilities and hyperscalers, while supporting America’s long‑term energy and economic goals.
