    Looking forward to talking at The Economist's Commercialising Quantum Global event next month. Last year, Q-CTRL's CEO Michael Biercuk took to this very stage to talk about our first demonstration of practical quantum advantage. This was in the field of quantum sensing, where we made a navigation capability that outperforms the best conventional alternative when flying through GPS denied airspace. This year, we've done it again.     Designing a vehicle frame that's both strong and lightweight is one of the toughest optimization problems in automotive engineering. The physics is complex, the simulations are costly, and the design space is massive. Together with leading automotive manufacturer Mazda, we explored how Quantum Machine Learning (QML) could change that, and the results are compelling. Using QML, we achieved a 5x reduction in the amount of training data required to deliver optimized frame designs with improved performance. In this collaboration, Q-CTRL designed a new Quantum-AI model to emulate costly finite-element-method-based simulations and successfully executed key parts of this model on real hardware. Powered by Fire Opal’s performance management capabilities, the quantum computations achieved accuracy on par with ideal simulations. This case study shows that quantum machine learning is no longer theoretical. With targeted data strategies and the right software tools, it’s already finding traction in practical, high-impact engineering workflows today.     Recently, we achieved a 3,000 times speedup on a commercially relevant materials science problem, reducing simulation times from over 100 hours to just two minutes with an IBM Quantum computer augmented by our software. Our performance-management software makes quantum computers useful today by suppressing the errors that can limit performance. This result provides evidence of practical quantum advantage–the point where quantum computers outperform the best available conventional alternative in a real-world application of known commercial or scientific relevance. As GPS signals become increasingly vulnerable to jamming and spoofing, defense and aerospace teams require a dependable backup. Our software-ruggedized quantum sensors provide the precision and reliability needed in the field. Unlike traditional GPS backups that do not operate in certain environments or accumulate errors over time, Ironstone Opal continuously repositions against magnetic and gravity maps. Our hardware delivers 100 times better positioning accuracy than conventional alternatives and meets the aviation required navigation performance standard of 0.3 nautical miles. Our denoising technology identifies and removes environmental interference. This allows our sensors to operate on moving platforms like drones and aircraft without heavy shielding.
