About us
The Pharmacy Guild of Australia is the national peak body representing community pharmacy. It seeks to serve the interests of its members and to support community pharmacy in its role delivering quality health outcomes for all Australians. The Guild was established in 1928, bringing together several small retail pharmacy organisations then operating in the various States. The Guild is registered under the federal Fair Work Act (Registered Organisations) Act 2009 as an employers' organisation. The Guild is committed to supporting and maintaining the community pharmacy model as the most appropriate and efficient system of delivering medicines, medication management and related services to the Australian public. The 5000 community pharmacies across Australia dispense around 250 million prescriptions annually. The vast majority of the prescriptions dispensed under the Federal Government’s subsidised Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) are available at the same price for all Australians wherever they live. This is a triumph of equity and access, which the Guild works hard to maintain. A major Guild activity at all levels is close liaison and negotiation with governments, manufacturers, wholesalers and other organisations in or around the health care delivery system.

It was fantastic to have so many members join us to network, connect and learn at last night's Metro Briefing! A special shout out to all those who joined us after a full day of pharmacist prescribing at Monash Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences - including Victoria Branch President George Tambassis - on their way to becoming Victoria’s first cohort of full scope of practice trained pharmacists when they graduate later this year. To our sponsors, Arrotex Pharmaceuticals and PDL (Pharmaceutical Defence Limited), thank you for your support. As pharmacists are enabled to do more for Victorian patients, the Member Briefing had a strong focus on pharmacists’ scope of practice. A big thanks to our guest speakers: 💠Monash University’s Steven Walker and the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia's Jarrod McMaugh for talking about the training opportunities available to pharmacists. 💠Suzanna Nash and Michelle Bou-Samra for outlining how The Pharmacy Guild of Australia will be supporting members to implement full scope of practice services in their pharmacies. As always, your involvement is what makes these briefings so valuable and we look forward to continuing to keep you informed and resourced to deliver world-class patient care into the future. We were pleased to attend the RAPS RMIT Career Expo last week to speak with future pharmacists about the career opportunities that are available in community pharmacy. As community pharmacists are enabled to practice at their full scope nationwide, Grace Chong shared her journey to becoming a pharmacist prescriber and how that has changed the patient care she delivers. It was also great to have pharmacists Alexander Look from Ouyen Pharmacy, David McConville from Gunn & McConville Pharmacy and Sharon Miller from MediGreen Dispensary share their wide range of experience in delivering patient care in a variety of settings. Thanks Hannah V. and the RAPS team for having us there. Mark Li | Jerry Yik

We were pleased to attend a ribbon-cutting ceremony last week, to celebrate the launch of the new Complete Care Pharmacy in Brighton. This is the first metropolitan Complete Care Pharmacy Group in Melbourne. Its model promotes pharmacists as clinicians as part of a collaborative community healthcare team, and demonstrates the value community pharmacy brings to patients in Victoria, as part of the state's ongoing expansion of the Community Pharmacist Program. As pharmacist full scope of practice continues to roll out in Victoria, quality assurance is evolving from QCPP to QSPP. Thank you to the many members who attended last night’s metro Melbourne briefing, and participated through the Q&A to make sure Victorian Guild member pharmacies will be leading the nation in patient-centric care. Thank you to The Pharmacy Guild of Australia President Trent Twomey, for sharing his insights, and to our Branch Committee members who were able to attend the QSPP roadshow event - Nicole Hardwick, Kin Chong, Anthony Tassone and of course our Branch President George Tambassis. The Guild was pleased to join the Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Melbourne Press Club yesterday, to hear insights from Treasurer Jaclyn Symes on what the 2026-27 State Budget will mean to Victoria's residents, workers, and small businesses. This Budget has reiterated the Government's commitment to patients and community pharmacists, that full scope of practice, under the Community Pharmacist Program / Chemist Care Now, will be delivered by the end of 2026-27 FY: https://loom.ly/UPyxT_c We look forward to continuing to work with the Government to deliver the implementation pathway our Members and sector need, to continue supporting Victorian patients.
