Langhorne Creek has been busily shaping its tourism future, with local leaders and operators coming together at Lake Breeze last week to explore how the Langhorne Creek Discovery Trail can be brought to life. Run by The Tourism Collective, the workshop brought strong collaboration between local businesses, regional partners and Council. Conversations focused on the stories that make Langhorne Creek unique – from its deep connection to water and landscape to its proud winemaking heritage, strong community ties and long-standing Indigenous connection to Country. Like the Trail itself, the tourism workshop was a community-led effort, driven by the Project Partnership Group, comprising Langhorne Creek Grape and Wine Association, the Langhorne Creek Hub, the Ngarrindjeri Aboriginal Corporation and Alexandrina Council. The session marks an important step in planning for the Trail’s activation, with insights to inform a Tourism Development Plan which will then be advanced by the local-driven Project Partnership Group. With the Trail set to become a major drawcard by 2027, Langhorne Creek is well placed to grow visitation, strengthen partnerships and build on its unique identity as a tourism destination. Every town, every pocket, every person is unique with a story to tell. Southern Fleurieu Peninsula, South Australia.
About us
The Alexandrina region is uniquely positioned in the picturesque Southern Fleurieu Peninsula at the end of the River Murray and as a gateway to the iconic Coorong. It is within an easy drive from metropolitan Adelaide – about an hour and a quarter or 85 kms south from Adelaide Airport. Alexandrina Council comprises some 182,684 hectares. It extends from the north-western side of Lake Alexandrina to the Murray Mouth, and the western end of the Coorong - taking in river communities of Langhorne Creek, Milang, Clayton Bay, Goolwa and Hindmarsh Island. It extends along the south coast to Port Elliot and inland to Mount Compass and Strathalbyn. The Alexandrina vision is about ‘connecting communities’ through regional innovation, a thriving environment, quality of life and wellbeing for all, increasing cultural vitality and activating vibrant spaces. The Alexandrina community encompasses many townships, villages and rural areas, with two major hubs – Strathalbyn to the north-east (edge of the Adelaide Hills) and Goolwa (to the south at the end of the River Murray). The Alexandrina area is one of the fastest growing regional areas in South Australia – experiencing peri-urban trends while also noted for its high quality agricultural production (the second largest industry in the region). The area is renowned for its environment, heritage and lifestyle. Our population also extends to the south alongside stunning coastline, acting as an annual nursery for Southern-Right Whales and a popular holiday and visitor destination. To the north, the population disperses throughout rolling hills and pastures, as a mix of rural living and large broadacre farming and vineyards.

🔦Community Spotlight on Langhorne Creek Grape and Wine. 🏆 Alexandrina Council is a proud sponsor of the Langhorne Creek Wine Show. We’ve been supporting this fantastic event for more than five years. This year's event in early May was another great day. Held at Bleasdale Vineyards, the show brought together a strong crowd, great food and an outstanding showcase of wines. It was also a valuable opportunity for our team working on the Langhorne Creek Discovery Trail to connect in person with the community and celebrate the region’s future. General Manager Infrastructure Alan Harvey spoke on behalf of Council, highlighting our ongoing partnership with the wine industry and the Discovery Trail's importance in supporting tourism and local business growth. Congratulations to all the winners 👏 📷 The multi-award-winning team from Bleasdale Vineyards - Scott Hocking, Sarah Keough, Sam Rowlands, Nicole Brasier and Patrick Thackeray. 🧑🤝🧑🧑🤝🧑Happy Harmony Week from everyone at Alexandrina Council! Harmony Week is about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone. 🧡 It is a time for Australians to recognise and celebrate cultural diversity and the many backgrounds that make our communities vibrant, During the week, our Libraries and Council Offices celebrated Harmony Week with a display of books celebrating cultural diversity and a bowl of fresh fruit and nibbles - orange coloured, of course! 📷 Today, Council staff wore something orange into the office, and we held our own 'Cultural Morning Tea' with a plate to share - either from our own cultural heritage or some Aussie favourites. It was a time of good food, great conversations and a celebration of diversity. The message of this year's Harmony Week is "everyone belongs". This message of respect and belonging can be lived every day - not just during Harmony Week. To check out other Council events, coming up, head to https://lnkd.in/efAghukT
